There are no simple answers to these broad questions, but we know that there are many needs that veterans have, and many solutions to providing for those needs.
Disabled Veterans National Foundation is taking a bit of a different approach to serving our veterans. Because there’s no simple answer to how their needs should be met, we decided to look at the bigger picture.
Their needs are being met by many local and regional nonprofits throughout the country.
But these groups need more than just funding to execute their missions.
DVNF has two priority areas we have focused our efforts that are crucial to ensuring our veterans are taken care of.
There are nearly 50,000 homeless veterans on any given night, with over half suffering from a physical disability, and at least another half with a mental illness.
An estimated 1 in 5 veterans of all eras suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and/or depression. More than a quarter million OEF/OIF veterans suffers from traumatic brain injury (TBI).
